The short version
- Your files, scan results, history and settings stay on your Mac.
- The app has no account and no analytics.
- The direct download makes one kind of network request: a license check with Lemon Squeezy. The Mac App Store edition makes none.
- The website uses Microsoft Clarity to see how the page is used. The app does not.
The app
What it reads
Storage scans read file names, sizes, dates and other metadata, not file contents. Only the duplicate finder, which compares contents in a folder you choose, and the optional Organizer suggestions, which read short excerpts and image thumbnails in a folder you choose, look inside files. Nothing is moved or removed until you review and confirm it.
Permissions
macOS protects some folders. MacMonitor asks for access to Documents, Desktop, Downloads, removable and network volumes only through the standard macOS prompts, with an explanation of why. Full Disk Access is optional, and the app works without it, telling you what was not measured.

Network requests
The direct download activates with a license key, and then checks it about once a day. Each request sends your license key and, when activating, your Mac's name (for example "Gohar's MacBook Pro") to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, so that one license works on one Mac. Lemon Squeezy also receives the technical details any web request carries, such as your IP address. If it cannot be reached, the app keeps working on its last successful check for 14 days. Deactivating in Settings releases the license from that Mac.
The app has no analytics, no advertising and no crash-reporting service of its own. The Mac App Store edition is licensed by the App Store and makes no network requests.
Notifications
Alerts are off until you turn them on. They are created on your Mac and use macOS notifications; no data is sent anywhere to produce them.
On-device suggestions
Optional Organizer suggestions use Apple's on-device models. The content they read stays on your Mac.
The website
macmonitor.app uses Microsoft Clarity to measure how the page is used, such as clicks, scrolling and device type, and it may set cookies or similar identifiers for that. See Microsoft's privacy statement. Our hosting provider, Vercel, may keep standard server logs, which include IP addresses. Your theme choice (light or dark) is stored in your browser only.
Purchases
Payments, receipts, taxes and license delivery are handled by Lemon Squeezy. It collects the details it needs to process your order, such as your name, email and payment details, under its own policy: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy. MacMonitor does not receive your card details.
Your choices
- Deactivate the license in Settings → License to release it from a Mac.
- Revoke any folder or Full Disk Access permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Delete the app and its data by moving MacMonitor to the Trash and removing its files from your Library.
- Block analytics on the website with your browser's tracking protection or an extension.
Children
MacMonitor is a utility for Mac owners and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The current version is always at macmonitor.app/privacy.
